Ken Kuhlken’s stories have appeared in ESQUIRE and dozens of other magazines, been honorably mentioned in Best American Short Stories, and earned a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.

His novels are: MIDHEAVEN, chosen as finalist for the Ernest Hemingway Award for best first novel; THE LOUD ADIOS, a Tom Hickey story set in 1943,  winner of the St. Martin's Press/PI Writers of America Best First PI Novel award; THE VENUS DEAL, a Tom Hickey mystery set in 1942; THE ANGEL GANG, a Tom Hickey novel set in 1949; and THE DO-RE-MI, a Clifford and Tom Hickey mystery set in 1971, coming from Poisoned Pen Press in November 2006.

An addition to the novels, Ken has conspired with fellow mystery writer Alan Russell to expose, in ROAD KILL and NO CATS, NO CHOCOLATE, the horrors of the book-signing circuit.

He also has written dozens of features for the San Diego Reader, and for two years wrote a weekly column for the Reader about cars and their people, including three about his grown daughter Darcy and her husband Darren.

Ken, his wife Pam, and their daughter Zoë live in San Diego and Tucson.
